西摩·马丁·李普塞特（1922—2006年）曾在加利福尼亚大学伯克利分校、哈佛大学、斯坦福大学任教。主要研究方向为政治社会学、社会分层理论、公共舆论以及知识分子的社会学研究。曾担任美国政治学会主席、社会学研究学会主席，并入选美国国家科学院以及美国艺术与科学院院士。代表作有《政治人——政治的社会基础》、《共识与冲突》等。
